The Curiosity Rover is a six wheeled car sized mobile laboratory exploring the Gale Crater on Mars. Curiosity's mission is to investigate the Martian landscape to determine if microbes have ever existed on the planet. Curiosity's mission has been extended indefinitely, although the plan was for it to stay on Mars for 1 Mars year, equivalent to 23 months on Earth. As of July 12, 2018 Curiosity has been on Mars for 2166 days since landing August 6, 2012.
